We discuss the Royals’ pitching problems on SportsBeat Live. Join the conversation
The Kansas City Royals put together a three-game winning streak last week and maybe, just maybe, things were starting to turn around. But they followed that run of fortune with three straight losses and it’s back to having baseball’s worst record.
On today’s SportsBeat Live, Star columnists Vahe Gregorian and Sam McDowell join host Blair Kerkhoff and we focus in on pitching.
The Royals have baseball’s worst first-inning ERA, and although that wasn’t a problem in Monday’s 6-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants, another season-long problem presented itself. The Royals walked nine hitters. They lead the majors in issuing walks overall and by the bullpen.
On the bright side, the work of new hitting coach Alec Zumwalt seems to be paying off. Numbers have improved since he took over last month.
