The first 65 competitive pitches in Kris Medlen’s comeback from a second Tommy John surgery have been thrown and the numbers suggest an encouraging performance.
Medlen, on the mound Friday for Class AA Northwest Arkansas against Springfield, threw four innings, and 39 of his 65 pitches went for strikes. He struck out five, walked zero and surrendered four hits, including a home run. His fastball sat at 93-94 mph.
Royals lefty Danny Duffy, on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis, is scheduled to start for Northwest Arkansas on Monday.
