Royals announce first wave of players expected to be at 2020 FanFest

While many kids around Kansas City have been marking days off the calendar in preparation for Christmas, some adults have a different countdown.

This involves baseball, and Thursday marked 98 days until opening day for the Royals.

But many of the Royals players will be back in town next month for FanFest, which is Jan. 24-25 at the Kansas City Convention Center’s Bartle Hall. On Thursday, the Royals announced the first group of players who are scheduled to appear.

The list includes catcher Salvador Perez, who missed last season because of an elbow injury, and outfielder Bubba Starling, the former Gardner Edgerton High School star. Infielder/outfielder Whit Merrifield, who was the Royals’ All-Star last season, and American League home run champion Jorge Soler will be on hand as well.

Here are the rest of the players who are scheduled to attend: Scott Barlow, Hunter Dozier, Cam Gallagher, Tim Hill, Jakob Junis, Brad Keller, Ian Kennedy, Jorge López, Nicky Lopez, Richard Lovelady, Ryan McBroom, Kevin McCarthy, Mike Montgomery, Jake Newberry, Ryan O’Hearn, Brett Phillips, Glenn Sparkman and Kyle Zimmer.

FanFest tickets are $5 for kids and $12 for adults and can be purchased at www.royals.com/fanfest. Hours will be noon to 9 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 25. The first two hours of each day are open only to season-ticket holders.
