The date and time for the Royals’ first postseason game in 29 years is set.

After the Tigers clinched the AL Central Division with a 3-0 victory over Minnesota on Sunday, the Royals were locked into the top AL wild-card spot and will play host to a winner-take-all AL wild-card game against the Oakland A’s at 7:07 p.m. Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium. The game will air on TBS.

The winner will face the Los Angeles Angels in a best-of-five AL Division Series that will open Thursday in Anaheim, Calif. The Tigers will open their division series at Baltimore on Thursday.

James Shields is scheduled to start for the Royals against the A’s Jon Lester.

The Royals expect to have a small amount of tickets available Tuesday morning for the wild-card game. Major League Baseball and some of its teams should return tickets for the game. They will be available for purchase at Royals.com.

In preparation for the playoff game Tuesday, the Royals will hold a free “Take the Crown Rally” today at Kauffman Stadium.

The rally will feature interviews with general manager Dayton Moore, manager Ned Yost and players at 11:30 a.m. before the team takes batting practice at 12:15 p.m.

Gates will open at 10:45 a.m. Fans are asked to enter the Truman Sports Complex through Gate 2 or the Bus Exit near Gate 6 and will be directed to park in Lot J. After batting practice ends at 1:30 p.m., fans are asked to leave the complex immediately, even if they hold tickets for the Chiefs’ game tonight against New England.

The Truman Sports Complex parking lots will reopen for the Chiefs game at 3 p.m. The football game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN and KMBC (Ch. 9).
