“The Big Bang Theory” was the most-watched television program in Kansas City in April. No surprise there. The CBS comedy constantly ranks near the top of national viewer ratings.

The second-most popular program in Kansas City, based on Nielsen Media Research: Royals broadcasts.

The Royals’ 12.1 average rating was not just the best rating for a major-league team on a regional network, it was the best April for a regional baseball network since 2002.

“I can’t say I’m too surprised,” said Jack Donovan, general manager for Fox Sports Kansas City. “The team has captured the region with its style of play. A lot of teams win. The Royals have charisma and the team chemistry is truly exceptional.”

The 12.1 rating means that an average 120,000 Kansas City households are watching the broadcast at any time.

The Royals played 22 games in April, and their games were the most-watched program in Kansas City on 13 of those days: 12 on FSKC and one on Fox Sports 1.
