Jason Vargas spun four hitless innings Saturday for the Royals in a 3-1 victory over the Astros. He struck out three in the team’s final outing before the regular season.

Kansas City broke up the deadlock in the eighth inning when Christian Colon led off with a triple. Two batters later, infield prospect Gabriel Noriega singled up the middle. Ryan Jackson doubled and scored on a throwing error two batters after that.

In his last appearance with the Royals before heading to Class AAA Omaha on a rehabilitation assignment, Luke Hochevar gave up a run in the fifth inning.

The Royals tied the game in the seventh. Outfielder Whit Merrifield doubled and came around to score on a groundout by Alex Gordon.
