A day after the Royals cut him loose, veteran shortstop Rafael Furcal re-signed with the club Wednesday on a minor-league deal.

His release was said to be a procedural quirk. He is currently rehabbing a torn hamstring.

Furcal, 37, has played in just nine big-league games since 2012.
