On Monday afternoon at Comerica Park, Royals left fielder Alex Gordon made one of the most sensational catches of the season, robbing a homer from Detroit’s Mikie Mahtook in the bottom of the fourth inning

There were two particularly amazing things about this. The first was the timing. Gordon retreated back to the left-field wall and paused for close to 3 seconds before making a perfectly timed leap and grab, pulling the baseball back onto the field.

The second was the victim. You might remember Mahtook as the poor outfielder who knocked a baseball over the left-field wall here on Sunday after Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez lined a shot that hit the top of the wall and bounced straight up.

Great catch by Gordon. Rough couple days for Mahtook.
