Royals’ Salvador Perez still in line for possible Tuesday return

All signs continue to point to Royals catcher Salvador Perez returning to the lineup this week against the Colorado Rockies.

Perez could be activated Tuesday before a series opener against Colorado at Kauffman Stadium. Yet Royals manager Ned Yost cautioned on Sunday that the return could wait until Wednesday if Perez is in need of a "recovery day" after a workout during Monday’s day off.

The Royals conclude a three-game series against the Indians on Sunday afternoon. Perez has been on the disabled list since sustaining an intercostal strain in his right side on Aug. 4. Yost indicated on Friday that Perez could be ready to return on Tuesday. He confirmed Sunday that Perez has experienced no setbacks in recent days and will continue to ramp up his batting practice on Sunday and Monday.

“We’ll either activate him Tuesday or Wednesday,” Yost said. “We’ll just see. If he needs a recovery day ... that has yet to be determined.”
