Danny Duffy despises the Cactus League. The dry air and rock-hard infields have bothered him for years in the Royals organization. He has been less encumbered by the elements this season, and he continued a fine spring with 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball in a 4-2 victory over a San Francisco Giants split squad.

Duffy scattered six hits and departed after an RBI double by shortstop Brandon Crawford. Kelvin Herrera allowed Crawford to score on a subsequent single to account for the other run on Duffy’s ledger.

Alex Rios snapped the scoreless deadlock in the fourth. He smashed a single beneath the glove of shortstop Joaquin Arias to plate Eric Hosmer, who had just doubled for his second hit of the day.

An inning later, Alex Gordon notched his first hit of the spring. He pulled a run-scoring single through the right side of the infield off Giants left-hander Tyson Blach.

After the Giants tied the game in the sixth, the Royals fired back after a one-out double by Rios. Salvador Perez put his club ahead with an RBI single up the middle. An RBI double by Mike Moustakas added to the lead.

Sunday's box score: Royals 4, Giants 2.
