Royals’ Hosmer, Yost ejected in first inning against Indians
Four batters into Saturday’s game the Royals were down a pair of participants.
Eric Hosmer, who came up with the bases loaded and no outs against the Indians, was called out on a check swing third strike on an appeal by third base umpire David Rackley.
Hosmer barked at Rackley and was tossed by home plate umpire Bill Welke.
That brought manager Ned Yost from the dugout to argue with Welke and he was tossed.
Hosmer’s ejection was the second of his career. He was tossed last season, on May 4.
Yost was tossed for the first time this season and the 40th time as a major-league manager. He’s been ejected 15 times as the Royals manager.
Cheslor Cuthbert took over for Hosmer, playing first base in a game for the second time in his major-league career. He played first base in the final inning of the 2015 season.
