Yordano Ventura struggles, but Royals bats come through in 6-5 win over Indians
Yordano Ventura muddled through an untidy outing as the Cleveland Indians knocked him around, but his offense picked him up in a 6-5 Royals victory.
Kansas City overcame a three-run deficit with a five-run barrage in the sixth inning. Matt Fields swatted a two-run homer. After Brett Eibner scored on a wild pitch, Christian Colon continued his torrid spring with a two-run single. The hit boosted Colon’s Cactus League average to .450.
Ventura gave up four runs on seven hits in three innings. He racked up five strikeouts but also committed a throwing error and issued a walk. His Cactus League ERA is now 10.29.
Cleveland jumped on Ventura in the first inning. The first four batters of the game all cracked singles. Jason Kipnis raked an RBI hit off the left-field wall. Carlos Santana followed with a drive to right for another run-scoring knock.
Ventura yielded two more singles in the second inning. Indians backup catcher Roberto Perez scored on a groundout.
In his second inning of Cactus League action, Luke Hochevar spun a scoreless frame with a fastball that sat at 93 mph. Chris Young yielded a solo homer after Hochevar left.
