Royals catcher Salvador Perez missed his second game Friday while recovering from a bruised right wrist.

Perez, who was hit in the wrist on Tuesday in a victory over the Minnesota Twins, tested the wrist before Friday’s series opener against the Chicago White Sox. Royals manager Ned Yost said he intended to put Perez in the lineup. But Perez reported some discomfort while swinging.

“He went out and swung, and it’s still swollen,” Yost said. “We’ll shoot again for tomorrow.”

Perez missed Wednesday’s series finale at Target Field in Minnesota. He is batting .254 with a .297 on-base percentage and 20 homers in 122 games.

Other lineup notes

▪ After missing seven games because of an ailing right hand, outfielder Lorenzo Cain returned to the lineup on Friday.

Royals manager Ned Yost described his status as “playable” and “ready to go.”

Cain said earlier this week that the injury would likely limit his power for the rest of the season.

▪ Left-handed reliever Matt Strahm missed Friday’s game while attending the funeral of his maternal grandfather back home in North Dakota. Yost said Strahm was set to return to the team on Saturday.
