Here’s how hard it is to be a Mets fan today
It stinks to be a New York Mets fan today. There are some hard feelings out there about that World Series loss, from tabloid covers to Twitter comments from unhappy fans.
Not to be mean but ...
Attention Twitter the Mets merchandise is now on sale at Modells! #mets #lgm #metsdiscount #worldseries #postseason pic.twitter.com/IYY2805TuH
— Michael LaPayower (@BigYankeesFan) November 2, 2015The New York Times put a fine point on everything with the first words of a story that ran with a headline reading, “New York Today: A Royal Pain.”
“The Mets — after suffering enough pratfalls, bobbles and miscues to make a Charlie Chaplin movie — lost the World Series to the Kansas City Royals in Flushing last night,” the Times wrote.
But were all the blown decisions made on the field?
This Mets fan is probably regretting his '2015 World Champs' tattoo https://t.co/94m0BSTpcL pic.twitter.com/CCsgZwtU0S
— For The Win (@ForTheWin) November 2, 2015The New York Daily News, apparently frustrated by all those “pratfalls, bobbles and miscues,” is running a website poll about Mets players called “Keep ’Em or Dump ’Em.”
Here’s the question: “Who do you want back in 2016 — and who should pack their bags.”
Some media outlets were more kind, sending condolences.
Sorry Mets fans. pic.twitter.com/8UdXijNNzR
— SB Nation (@SBNation) November 2, 2015Newsday acknowledged that there is no joy in Mudville today with a rather poetic beginning to its game story.
“There’s a Jewish proverb Mets fans truly can appreciate: ‘What soap is for the body, tears are for the soul.’”
Deadspin ran a photo gallery of sad Mets fans at the game.
“The Mets lost the World Series in the most on-brand, Mets-y way possible,” writes Deadspin. “That’s very bad news for Mets fans, but it’s good news for those of us who have grown to appreciate the great photographic genre that is Sad Mets Fans.”
Sad or not, many fans still stand by their team.
This was an incredible, memorable season. Thank you @Mets
— Big Mets Fan (@bigmetsfan1) November 2, 2015On this day-after, even the littlest fans can see the pain.
Leaving 4 work, my 8yr old daughter, hearing of @Mets loss, hugged me & said "It's Ok Daddy, we'll get thru it eventually." #WiseBeyondYears
— Brian Fitzsimmons (@brian_bonafitz) November 2, 2015Older fans? Some are just darn bitter.

— Donato Sammartino (@donato4004) November 2, 2015The Mets played the most embarrassing baseball imaginable & held a lead for about 90% of this series. The "What Ifs" will haunt me forever

— Ferrall On The Bench (@OnTheBenchCBS) November 2, 2015Mets fans really don’t like the Royals today.
The #Royals are super impressive and hats off them and all that but theirs is not a style of baseball that I especially enjoy.
— Ben White (@morningmoneyben) November 2, 2015Salvador Perez MVP lol that's how you know the Mets beat themselves
— John Southard (@JsouthNYG) November 2, 2015The feeling is quite mutual. During the series Royals fans noted how much attention the Mets received from what has long been considered the fan-boy East Coast media.
*said in Aziz Ansari whiney voice* You guyyyys. But the errorrrrrs! The Mets would have wonnnnnn-uh! The Royals are luckyyyyyy! Heh.
— cupKCakes (@cupcakesarenice) November 2, 2015So of course there must be pot shots because ... sports.
