Lee’s Summit West and Blue Springs South looked in midseason form on offense for their one half of play Friday on the opening night of the Missouri high school football season.
In the first game for both head coaches — Lee’s Summit West’s Vinny Careswell and Blue Springs South’s Jon Oyler — the teams combined for five scores over the first 24 minutes. The Titans led 21-14 before inclement weather delayed the rest of the game until Saturday at 11 a.m.
West senior quarterback Cole Taylor and wide receiver Elijah Childs combined for the play of the game — so far — late in the second quarter on a 16-yard touchdown pass where Childs outleapt his defender for the ball and sprinted the final 5 yards into the end zone.
The score gave the Titans their 21-14 lead.
