The Star’s high school athletes of the week (Feb. 5)

YEAR: Freshman
SPORT: Wrestling
The 113-pound wrestler won his bracket at the Odessa Tournament last weekend, besting an impressive field. He pinned Marceline’s Dylan Wheeler, a defending state champion who was previously unbeaten, and he also pinned Odessa’s Logan White, who finished as runner-up in Missouri Class 1 state tournament last season. Rivera improved to 40-7 in his freshman season.

Madeline Homoly
SCHOOL: Bishop Miege
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Basketball
Homoly went 12-for-15 from the field and scored a game-high 32 points with 13 rebounds against Andover Central in the championship game of the Newton Tournament last week. Homoly, a South Dakota signee, averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds across three games in the tournament.
