The Star’s All-Metro boys basketball team
BOYS FIRST TEAM
Jeriah Horne, Barstow, senior. A Nebraska signee, Horne led the Knights to a third straight appearance in the Missouri Class 3 state tournament. They lost to Tolton Catholic by two in the state final, but Horne scored 39 points in the game. He averaged 21 points and nine rebounds per game this season.
Michael Hughes, Liberty North, senior. Hughes, the school’s all-time best shot blocker and rebounder, was a force on both ends of the court. He averaged 17.1 points, 14.6 rebounds and 4.6 blocks per game. He has signed with Akron.
KJ Robinson, Blue Springs South, senior. A Nebraska-Omaha signee, Robinson was the driving force behind the Jaguars’ trip to the Missouri Class 5 state quarterfinals. He averaged 25 points per game, setting single-season school records in points (721) and field goals (252).
Blake Spellman, Lee’s Summit, senior. Spellman, the conductor of the high-powered Tigers’ offense and one of the best ballhandlers in the city, averaged 19.5 points and 3.9 assists, while turning it over less than two times per game. He will attend Northern Kentucky.
Michael Weathers, Shawnee Mission North, senior. He was relentless in his quest to get to the basket, averaging 20.9 points per game. He was also the best defender for an SM North team that won its first Kansas Class 6A state championship in 63 years.
