The Star’s All-Metro boys basketball coach of the year is Blake Little of Lee’s Summit
Blake Little took over the Lee’s Summit High School boys basketball program three years ago, and before he even conducted his first practice, he felt an immediate fit.
The team was loaded with quickness — an attribute actually best exhibited by his then-sophomore class.
“I’ve always liked to play fast,” said Little, The Star’s All-Metro boys basketball coach of the year. “I was fortunate to have the personnel that had a chance to play quick. We really fit that get-up-and-go style.”
In his third season, as those sophomores grew into seniors, that blossomed to a perfect bond.
The Tigers took an undefeated record into the Missouri Class 5 state tournament this season, where they lost to Springfield Kickapoo in the semifinals. After a loss in the third-place game, Lee’s Summit finished its season with a 29-2 record.
But the Tigers were the only boys team from the Kansas City area to conclude the season without a loss against a local opponent.
