The Star’s All-Metro girls basketball coach of the year is Bishop Miege’s Terry English
The streak dates back more than two years, and with every victory, the pressure mounted. Even so, the Bishop Miege High School girls basketball team managed to sidestep any distractions.
Even in the Kansas Class 4A Division I state championship game.
After relinquishing a 12-point lead to Paola, the Stags bounced back to win a third straight state title and complete a second consecutive undefeated season.
They extended the program winning streak to 60 games, while giving coach Terry English his state-record 19th girls basketball state championship.
English, who has not lost a game since Feb. 11, 2014, is The Star’s All-Metro girls basketball coach of the year.
“If you’re going to win 60 straight, everybody who comes out is gunning for you,” English said. “These kids somehow have handled that. That’s pretty tough nowadays.”
