The Star’s high school athletes of the week

TANNER OWEN

▪ SCHOOL: Park Hill South

▪ YEAR: Senior

▪ SPORT: Golf

Owen has opened the season with two tournament victories. He won the Independence Invitational last week, shooting a 1-over 73 at Drumm Farm Golf Club. Owen, a Missouri Class 4 all-state performer last year, took a 1-shot victory in the 21-team field.

KAYLA DEAVER

▪ SCHOOL: Lee’s Summit

▪ YEAR: Sophomore

▪ SPORT: Soccer

Deaver scored a goal with 47 seconds left to lift the Tigers to a 1-0 victory against Lee’s Summit North in the championship match of the Lee’s Summit tournament. She also netted the game-winner in a semifinal victory against Lee’s Summit West.
