Shawnee Mission North twins Marcus and Michael Weathers commit to play basketball at Miami (Ohio)
Nine days after concluding their high school basketball careers with a Kansas Class 6A state championship, Shawnee Mission North twin brothers Michael and Marcus Weathers firmed up their college plans.
The Weathers brothers announced Monday that they have committed to Miami (Ohio).
“It’s a huge relief that we get to play together,” Michael said. “I think that was very important for us. Our mom never wanted us to be separated, and I think we feed off each other a lot.”
It played out that way in the Class 6A state tournament in Wichita earlier this month. In three victories, Michael, a point guard, averaged 24.3 points per game. Marcus, a small forward, averaged 19 points per game over the same three-game span.
Shawnee Mission North won its first state title in 63 years.
“We thought about going to different colleges, but ultimately two is better than one,” Marcus said. “We’re both highly competitive and can play at a high level. We both bring talents to our school and some competitive juices. We’re just excited and blessed for the opportunity.”
