Winnetonka football coach Sterling Edwards steps down after six seasons

Winnetonka football coach Sterling Edwards resigned from his position Monday, and he has accepted a job as offensive coordinator at Lee’s Summit West.

Edwards, who will join his wife on the Lee’s Summit West teaching staff, informed his players of the move during a meeting Monday afternoon.

“It was probably the toughest decision, professionally, that I’ve ever had to make,” Edwards said. “I may not have another opportunity like this to unite my family and work for somebody who I have a lot of respect for.”

Edwards will coach under first-year Titans head coach Vinny Careswell, who was hired last month to replace Royce Boehm.

Edwards spent six seasons with Winnetonka, compiling a 34-31 record, and his .523 winning percentage is the best of any coach who spent at least three seasons with the school.
