Ballock, a four-star recruit according to Rivals.com, later told the Omaha World-Herald it was a difficult decision. He received a scholarship offer in the summer of 2014 from KU coach Bill Self, whose program is 10 miles west of Eudora in Lawrence.
“It was really hard to tell them no because they’re always one of the top programs in the country with great teams and a great coaching staff,” Ballock told the World-Herald. “But at the end of the day, I was looking for the best situation for me that would let me excel as a player.”
Ballock averaged 20 points, six rebounds and three assists as a sophomore before undergoing shoulder surgery in September.
He also had interest from Kansas State, Iowa State, Maryland, Oklahoma and Indiana.
