Here are five takeaways from the past week in Missouri side high school boys winter sports:

1. Park Hill South settled for third place in the North Kansas City Invitational over the weekend, and an individual accolade made it a notable appearance.

Senior Ryan Welty scored the 1,000th point of his high school career in the third-place game against Truman. Welty, a sharp-shooting power forward, had 17 points in the 75-69 win against Truman.

Rock Bridge defeated Raymore-Peculiar 54-47 in the tournament’s championship game.

2. In an annual exercise that takes place during the opening days of preseason practice, the Lee’s Summit Tigers divide their season into four segments.

They remain undefeated through the initial two.

Lee’s Summit defeated O’Hara 75-54 in the championship game of the Culver’s Classic on its home court Friday, and the Tigers a 15-0 record into the Suburban Gold Conference schedule Tuesday.

O’Hara didn’t go easily, though. The Celtics led by three points after the end of the first quarter and trailed by only two at halftime. Dezmond McDaniel scored 20 points.

Marquawn Wilson and Oliver Edwards each scored 12 points for Lee’s Summit, which improved to 15-0 after wins against O’Hara, Summit Christian Academy and Southwest in the tournament.

3. Rockhurst twin brothers Cameron and Colin Valdiviez have been nothing short of perfect this season on the wrestling mat.

More of the same over the weekend.

Cameron and Colin won their respective weight divisions at the Winnetonka Invitational to keep their undefeated records intact. Cameron took first place in the 120-pound bracket, narrowly defeating Staley wrestler David Berryman 4-3 in the finals. He is 35-0. Colin pinned Odessa senior Dakota Miller, a two-time state champion, to win the 126-pound class and improve to 38-0 this season.

4. After losing a pair of three-time individual state champions, the Park Hill wrestling team veered to the background of the title-contending discussion this preseason.

But the Trojans are the defending Missouri Class 4 champions for a reason. The talent remains.

Park Hill won three weight classes at the Winnetonka Invitational this weekend, with Sean Hosford (145 pounds), Devin Winston (160) and Canten Marriott (170) securing titles.

5. A day after Summit Christian Academy had its 11-game winning streak snapped, the Eagles ensured the losing skid lasted less than 24 hours.

In an unlikely manner, too.

The Eagles fought back from a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Ruskin 56-54 in the third-place game of the Culver’s Classic. General Williams sparked the comeback with 15 points. Summit Christian Academy improved to 14-4.
