The Star’s high school basketball rankings (Jan. 21)

The Star’s highs school basketball rankings are voted on by the high school staff. The big-class division is made up of Missouri Class 5 and 4, as well as Kansas Class 6A and 5A. All other classes are in the small class.

(Records are through Wednesday’s games)

BIG-CLASS BOYS

1. Lee’s Summit: 13-0. Five players were in double figures in the Tigers’ four-point win against SM North on Saturday.

2. Lawrence: 9-1. The Chesty Lions are one of two teams in the Sunflower League with a perfect conference record.

3. Blue Springs South: 10-2. An overtime win against 2014 Missouri Class 5 champion CBC supplies the Jaguars with momentum.

4. Olathe East: 7-2. The Hawks’ seven-game winning streak ended with a home loss to Lawrence on Friday.

5. Blue Valley Northwest: 5-2. The Huskies lost for the second time in three games in Saturday’s Best of the Midwest Showcase.

6. Liberty North: 11-3. The Eagles notched program win No. 100 during a trip last week to St. Louis.

7. Lee’s Summit West: 10-3. The Titans let an eight-point halftime lead slip away in a loss to St. Joseph Central on Tuesday.

8. Shawnee Mission North: 6-3. The Indians’ two in-town losses have come against teams ranked in The Star’s poll.

9. Olathe South: 7-2. The Falcons had three players finish in double figures in their victory against Olathe North on Friday.

10. Blue Springs: 10-3. A hiccup Wednesday against St. Joseph Lafayette halted the Wildcats’ three-game winning streak.

SMALL-CLASS BOYS

1. Barstow: 10-1. Jeriah Horne scored 25 points in a comeback win against Columbia Hickman.

2. Basehor-Linwood: 9-0. The Bobcats are the only undefeated team in the Kaw Valley League.

3. O’Hara: 10-3. The Celtics made eight three-pointers in Tuesday’s blowout win against Lee’s Summit North.

4. Bonner Springs: 9-1. The Braves held Bishop Ward to a season-low 18 points in Wednesday’s victory.

5. Hogan Prep: 13-3. With a potent offense, the sum of the Rams’ progress will be marked by their defense.

BIG-CLASS GIRLS

1. Liberty: 14-1. The Blue Jays have won five straight games by double digits.

2. Olathe South: 9-0. The Falcons have won every game this season by at least 11 points.

3. Leavenworth: 7-1. Three players scored in double digits for the Pioneers in their last two games.

4. North Kansas City: 10-1. During a six-game winning streak, the Hornets have held every opponent to 35 or fewer points.

5. Shawnee Mission Northwest: 7-2. The Cougars rebounded from back-to-back losses with two consecutive victories.

6. Olathe East: 8-1. The Hawks’ last two victories have been decided by a total of seven points.

7. Lawrence Free State: 6-2. Madison Piper led the Firebirds with 25 points Friday, including four three-pointers.

8. St. Thomas Aquinas: 6-3. The Saints lost to defending Class 4A Division I state champion Bishop Miege on Thursday.

9. William Chrisman: 11-2. Adreon Bell scored 16 points in a win against Blue Springs South on Tuesday.

10. St. Teresa’s Academy: 10-4. The Stars’ nine-game winning streak ended with a loss Wednesday to Bishop Miege.

SMALL-CLASS GIRLS

1. Bishop Miege: 8-0. The Stags hung on to beat Aquinas by four on Friday in its first single-digit victory of the season.

2. Piper: 10-0. The Pirates outscored their opponents 157-46 in their last two Kaw Valley League games.

3. St. Pius X: 12-1. The Warriors are shooting 49 percent from the field this season.

4. Paola: 7-1. The Panthers are responsible for De Soto and Baldwin’s only Frontier League losses this season.

5. O’Hara: 11-2. The undefeated season came to a close with back-to-back losses to Smithville and St. Pius X.
