Missouri, Kansas high school teams to meet on the football field in 2016-17
An old debate will be settled on high school football fields next fall.
Which side of the state line produces better football teams in Kansas City: Missouri or Kansas?
A slate of 10 games next September could finally provide an answer. The matchups will pit Sunflower League teams from Kansas against Suburban Conferences teams from Missouri on Sept. 15-16, 2016. The exact dates of each game will be announced later.
The series is a two-year agreement that will conclude in 2017.
Here are the 10 games: Blue Springs at Shawnee Mission West; Blue Springs South at Olathe North; Grandview at Shawnee Mission Northwest; Lawrence at Lee’s Summit West; Lawrence Free State at Park Hill; Leavenworth at North Kansas City; Lee’s Summit at Olathe South; Liberty at Olathe East; Lee’s Summit North at Olathe Northwest; and Shawnee Mission South at Winnetonka.
The out-of-state matchups will occur in the fifth week of the Missouri high school football season and during the third week of the Kansas high school season.
The four Suburban Conferences will finalize their 2016 football schedules later this month.
