Mill Valley’s Christian Jegen named Gatorade football player of the year

Mill Valley’s versatile senior Christian Jegen was tabbed as the Kansas Gatorade football player of the year Thursday after leading the Jaguars to the program’s first state championship.

The award recognizes athletic production, academic achievement and exemplary character.

Jegen split his time between running back, wide receiver and defensive back this season. He finished with 14 rushing touchdowns, 16 receiving touchdowns and 2,538 all-purpose yards. He had 29 tackles and two interceptions on defense.

Off the field, he posted a 3.76 GPA and volunteered locally with an elementary school literacy-outreach program as a football coach.

He is still undecided on his college decision, but Scout.com lists his interests as Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Tulsa.
