Kearney moves into Missouri Class 4 state football semifinals
On a relatively warm afternoon Saturday, a stout Kearney defense lined up against a Hannibal offense that had scored at least three touchdowns in each of the first 12 weeks of the season.
The defense won.
As a result, so did the Bulldogs.
Kearney rolled past previously-undefeated Hannibal 35-7 in the Missouri Class 4 quarterfinals to reach the semifinals for the third straight season. The Bulldogs face Westminster Christian Academy next week.
“We felt like they have two great athletes in their quarterback and tailback, so the gameplan was to do everything we could to not let them beat us. The kids executed,” Kearney coach Greg Jones said. “We were flying around.”
The offense did its part, too.
Kearney rushed for 340 yards, with running back Marcus Harris and quarterback Logan Hinck topping 100 yards. They each scored once; Cale Garrett ran for two touchdowns; and Zackary Riley had one.
