De Soto reaches Kansas 4-1A state soccer final for the first time
De Soto punched its first-ever ticket into the 4-1A state soccer championship game with a 3-2 victory over Wichita Trinity Academy on Friday night.
Andrew Dowdy scored two goals for the Wildcats, one in the first half and another in the second half. The third De Soto goal was scored by Travis Hodge.
“Words can’t describe how awesome this feels,” De Soto head coach Jesse Smith said. “These boys have worked so hard to get to this point, we matched up really well with Trinity. We’re just happy to be able to do something our program has never done.”
The Wildcats play Rose Hill at 2 p.m. today for the 4-1A state championship at Circle High School.
Rose Hill 3, Spring Hill 0
Spring Hill will settle for the third-place game today after it was defeated by defending 4-1A state champion Rose Hill 3-0 on Friday night. The Broncos were only able to get one shot in 80 minutes against the lockdown Rose Hill defense.
“I’m very proud of the guys,” Spring Hill coach Will Meier said. “They’ve competed since day one and that’s all we’ve ever asked of them this year. We told them to control the things they control and that’s their heart, effort … . They did just that tonight.”
