Rockhurst senior quarterback T.J. Green was named the Missouri Gatorade player of the year Thursday. The award recognizes the combination of athletic achievement, academic excellence and exemplary character.
Green threw for 2,651 yards and 33 touchdowns while helping the Hawklets reach the Missouri Class 6 state championship game. Rockhurst lost to CBC, 31-24, on Saturday in St. Louis.
Green, the son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green, was also recognized Tuesday as one of the four finalists for the Thomas A. Simone Memorial Award, given to the best football player in the Kansas City area.
