St. Teresa’s Academy falls in Missouri Class 4 volleyball state championship
After one set Saturday night, St. Teresa’s Academy put a serious threat into Lafayette’s volleyball dynasty in the Missouri Class 4 state championship.
Over the next two sets, the dynasty extended its rule.
Lafayette (Wildwood) came back and beat St. Teresa’s Academy in three sets (11-25, 25-29, 25-11) and won its fifth straight state championship.
St. Teresa’s Academy, 25-10-6, was searching for the program’s first championship since 2006. Maddie Torti led the St. Teresa’s Stars with 14 kills in the championship match, and Gabrielle Wimes added six. Delaney Meyer had a team-best 14 assists. And Jacqueline Smith led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
▪ In Class 3, Pleasant Hill swept St. Pius X (25-22, 25-13) in the third-place match. Logan Gish led the Roosters with 12 kills, aided by 11 assists from Josey Pate. In the loss for the Warriors, Jessica Giokas had seven kills.
Pleasant Hill finished 34-3-2, and St. Pius X completed its season 24-12-3.
