The Star’s high school athletes of the week for May 22

SCHOOL: St. Thomas Aquinas
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Track and field
Cofer, who is headed to Drake next fall for track and cross country, led St. Thomas Aquinas to a third consecutive Eastern Kansas League title with a record-breaking performance in the 1,600 meters. She finished the race in 5 minutes, 3.62 seconds, the fastest time in meet history.

Reece Eddins
SCHOOL: Blue Springs South
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Baseball
In a rare feat, Eddins threw back-to-back no-hitters, both against rival Blue Springs. After no-hitting the Wildcats in a 2-0 loss on May 7, Eddins held Blue Springs hitless again in a 1-0 win on May 13. In his next start, on Tuesday, Eddins picked up the win against Lee’s Summit North in the Missouri Class 5, District 14 championship game.
