Here’s the 913 area high school football Week 5 recap for teams in the Eastern Kansas League, Sunflower League and five other squads, including team’s overall record, conference record, last week’s result, this week’s opponent and a comment.

Eastern Kansas League

1. Bishop Miege (4-1, 4-1)

Beat Blue Valley West 56-20; Fri. vs. Blue Valley Southwest

Carter Putz passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more in the Stags’ victory last Thursday.

2. Blue Valley North (4-1, 4-1)

Beat Blue Valley 28-27; Fri. at Gardner Edgerton

The Mustangs edged the Tigers with back-to-back touchdowns in the fourth quarter on Friday.

3. Blue Valley (4-1, 3-1)

Lost to Blue Valley North 28-27; Fri. vs. St. Thomas Aquinas

The Tigers led late, but surrendered two straight touchdowns to fall for the first time this season.

4. St. Thomas Aquinas (3-2, 3-1)

Beat Gardner Edgerton 20-7; Fri. at Blue Valley

Karter Odermann scored two touchdowns through the air and one on the ground for the Saints.

5. Blue Valley Southwest (2-3, 2-2)

Beat Blue Valley Northwest 34-28; Fri. at Bishop Miege

The Timberwolves picked up their second victory of the season in their highest scoring game.

6. Blue Valley West (1-4, 1-3)

Lost to Bishop Miege 56-20; Fri. at Blue Valley Northwest

The Jaguars could not build off of their first victory and were blown out by the Stags last Thursday.

7. Gardner Edgerton (1-4, 1-3)

Lost to St. Thomas Aquinas 30-7; Fri. vs. Blue Valley North

The Trailblazers have scored just 21 points in their last two games after scoring 37 the previous game.

8. Blue Valley Northwest (0-5, 0-4)

Lost to Blue Valley Southwest 34-28; Fri. vs. Blue Valley West

Though the Huskies are still winless, their last two games have been decided by seven or fewer points.

Sunflower League

1. Lawrence (5-0, 4-0)

Beat Shawnee Mission South 42-6; Fri. vs. Olathe South

The Chesty Lions have allowed just 12 points by opponents in their last two victories.

2. Olathe North (5-0, 4-0)

Beat Leavenworth 48-23; Thurs. at Shawnee Mission North

Matt Wright and Vinnie Shabazz balanced the Eagles’ attack with three touchdowns each on offense.

5. Shawnee Mission West (4-1, 4-1)

Beat Olathe South 46-7; Fri. at Olathe East

Kirby Grigsby has scored six rushing touchdowns in his last three games for the Vikings.

4. Shawnee Mission East (4-1, 3-1)

Lost to Lawrence Free State 32-20; Fri. at Leavenworth

The Kansas Class 6A defending state champions suffered their first loss since Nov. 30, 2013.

5. Olathe Northwest (4-1, 3-1)

Beat Shawnee Mission North 42-22; Fri. at Shawnee Mission Northwest

The Ravens scored four of their five touchdowns on the ground in Friday’s victory.

6. Olathe East (3-2, 3-1)

Beat Shawnee Mission Northwest 25-14; Fri. vs. Shawnee Mission West

Alex Conley rushed for three of the Hawks’ touchdowns as they picked up their third straight victory.

7. Lawrence Free State (2-3, 2-3)

Beat Shawnee Mission East 32-20; Fri. vs. Shawnee Mission South

The Firebirds knocked off the Kansas Class 6A defending state champions for their second straight victory.

8. Olathe South (1-4, 1-3)

Lost to Shawnee Mission West 46-7; Fri. at Lawrence

The Falcons have been outscored by nearly 100 points (117-21) across their last three losses.

9. Shawnee Mission Northwest (1-4, 1-3)

Lost to Olathe East 25-14; Fri. vs. Olathe Northwest

The Cougars allowed the fewest points so far this season, but still suffered their third consecutive loss.

10. Shawnee Mission North (1-4, 1-4)

Lost to Olathe Northwest 42-22; Thurs. vs. Olathe North

Will Schneider scored all three of the Indians’ touchdowns with two on the ground and one through the air.

11. Leavenworth (0-5, 0-4)

Lost to Olathe North 48-23; Fri. vs. Shawnee Mission East

The Pioneers had their highest scoring game of the season, but have yet to win a game.

12. Shawnee Mission South (0-5, 0-5)

Lost to Lawrence 42-6; Fri. at Lawrence Free State

The Raiders have been held to single digits in four of their five losses this season.

Other teams

1. Mill Valley (4-1, 0-0)

Lost to Staley 28-21; Fri. at Lansing

The Jaguars were held to a season-low 21 points and suffered their first loss of the year.

2. St. James Academy (5-0, IND)

Beat Lincoln Prep 41-13; Fri. vs. Field Kindley

Senior quarterback Trey Keith passed for a season-high three touchdowns for the Thunder.

3. De Soto (4-1, 2-0)

Beat Spring Hill 27-24; Fri. at Louisburg

The Wildcats have scored 20 points or more in each of their four victories this season.

4. Spring Hill (1-4, 1-3)

Lost to De Soto 27-24; Fri. at Eudora

The Broncos’ last two Frontier League games have been decided by a total of eight points.

5. Immaculata/Maranatha Christian (0-5)

Lost to Highland-Doniphan West 55-20; Fri. vs. Troy

The team will attempt to get their first victory in upcoming back-to-back home games.
