The Star’s high school fall sports athletes of the week (Sept. 30)

SCHOOL: Shawnee Mission Northwest

YEAR: Senior

SPORT: Soccer

Jones scored eight goals in a three-match span last week, including hat tricks in back-to-back games for the Cougars. A senior captain, Jones had two goals against Rockhurst, three goals against Shawnee Mission East and three goals against Leavenworth in a 7-0 shutout.

Margaret Pigott

SCHOOL: St. Thomas Aquinas

YEAR: Sophomore

SPORT: Cross Country

Pigott was the top Kansas City area finisher last Saturday at the Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence. She placed second in the Gold Division, which included 254 participants. She finished the five-kilometer race in 18 minutes, 23 seconds and has already cut nearly a full minute off her race time from last season.
