Friday night football (Sept. 25): Games to watch, 810 Varsity online games and KC area schedule

FRIDAY’S GAMES TO WATCH

Raymore-Peculiar (3-2) at Lee’s Summit North (4-1)

Five of the six teams in the Suburban Gold Conference have a winning record this season, and the league, as a whole, has combined for a 20-10 record.

It certainly serves as no surprise that it has been one of the toughest conferences in the area, but as for Lee’s Summit North’s inclusion in the league’s championship race?

That’s a bit unexpected.

After their first-ever win against Lee’s Summit West last week, the Broncos have already won four games after winning only one last season. But with three conference games remaining, the schedule only toughens over the final month of the regular season.

That includes Friday’s matchup with Raymore-Peculiar, a team with dangerous weapons on the outside. Seniors James Sappington and Cole Kruse have combined for 38 catches, 527 yards and four touchdowns this year.

SM East (3-0) at SM West (3-0)

These two schools have a definite rivalry, but rarely have they met with both teams being undefeated.

Shawnee Mission East, the Kansas Class 6A defending state champion, has allowed just 20 points this season and all those point were scored last week by SM Northwest. The Lancers offense has scored 148 points this season.

Shawnee Mission West, meanwhile, started the season with two single-digit victories. The Vikings seemed to find a groove against SM North last week, when they had six players contribute to the scoring. Kirby Grigsby led the way, with three rushing touchdowns. Teammate Nigil Houston added two scores.

Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m. at SM South District Stadium.
