Kansas high school football playoffs: Predictions for Friday night

THE KANSAS CITY STAR

It’s the final week of the regular season in Kansas high school football. Here are some games to keep an eye on.

Week seven record: 4-1

Overall record: 29-11

SM Northwest (2-6) at SM South (2-6)

Both teams are coming off loses, but Shawnee Mission South still have a chance to qualify for state if it wins this game. The Raiders picked up a victory against Blue Valley North the previous week for a 1-1 district record.

Prediction: SM South 24, SM Northwest 14

Olathe North (8-0) at Olathe Northwest (5-3)

The Eagles are undefeated with one week left in the regular season, but they will face a test this week against the Ravens who need a victory to qualify for state. Both teams are coming off victories.

Prediction: Olathe North 35, Olathe Northwest 21

Shawnee Mission West (4-4) at Blue Valley North (2-6)

Both teams are coming off a victory and one more could help them cement a Class 6A tournament bid. The Vikings defeated Shawnee Mission South and the Mustangs defeated Shawnee Mission Northwest.

Prediction: Shawnee Mission West 28, Blue Valley North 17

St. James Academy (6-2) at Bonner Springs (6-2)

Each of these teams comes in with only two loses on the season, but more importantly they have identical 1-1 records in district play. That means a Kansas Class 5A state tournament berth is on the line.

Prediction: St. James Academy 42, Bonner Springs 24

Blue Valley West (4-4) at Blue Valley Southwest (3-5)

Despite only having a .500 record, the Jaguars still have a chance to go back to the Class 5A tournament if they can defeat the Timberwolves to end the regular season. Both teams are looking to bounce back from tough losses.

Prediction: Blue Valley West 35, Blue Valley Southwest 24
