Olathe South’s Kylee Kopatich switches basketball commitment from Kansas State to Kansas

Olathe South High School girls basketball coach Steve Ingram confirmed Monday that Kylee Kopatich, who was the Sunflower League MVP this season, has switched her verbal commitment from Kansas State to Kansas.

The decision follows K-State’s firing of coach Deb Patterson on March 9. In 18 years, Patterson led the Wildcats to nine NCAA Tournaments and two Big 12 titles with a 350-226 record. The Wildcats went 11-19 this season.

Kopatich averaged 12.2 points, 6.3 assists and 3.1 steals per game for the Falcons, who finished 22-3

and took third in the Kansas Class 6A state tournament. She was chosen first team all-state by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association and was also a DiRenna Award finalist.

“I know she loved the staff that was let go,” Ingram said. “K-State was a little slow saying whether they would honor that commitment, so they went to seek a Plan B. KU was definitely on her list when she was making the choice the first time around and she liked the staff. I think this will be a better fit for her.”
