Zych returning to coach at Miege

is headed back to the place he called home for 17 years.

Bishop Miege announced Monday that Zych will replace Fred Turner

as the school’s boys basketball coach next season. Turner is scheduled to retire after the school year.

“I’m coming back home,” Zych said. “I was definitely happy at Park Hill South. This would be the only job that would draw me away. I’m thinking with my heart. I miss a lot of the people there.”

And the success, too. While Zych totaled 40 victories in his two seasons at Park Hill South, the Panthers failed to advance past district play in either season.

In Zych’s 17 years at Miege, the Stags won two state titles and reached the state championship game five times. He totaled 308 wins.

Miege finished 4-16 last season.

“He left here on amicable terms, so we’re glad he was interested in coming back,” Miege athletic director Mike Hubka
