The Star’s high school athletes of the week for March 27

Austin Simms

• YEAR: Senior

• SPORT: Baseball

In the 500th game in Blue Springs South program history, Simms made a little history of his own. He fired a no-hitter Saturday in a 5-0 season-opening victory against Fort Osage. A Drury signee, Simms was one walk away from a perfect game. He struck out five.

Emily Griffin

• SCHOOL: Blue Springs South

• YEAR: Junior

• SPORT: Soccer

After her sophomore season was cut short with a knee injury, Griffin opened her junior season in style. She notched a hat trick in Blue Springs South's season-opening victory against Raytown on March 21. Griffin has committed to Central Missouri.
