113 POUNDSStephen Tujague, St. James Academy, sophomore.After defaulting his first match at the Kansas Class 5A state tournament, he did not give up a single point and finished third at state. He was 42-7 and helped the Thunder win the 5A team title.
120 POUNDSSean Hosford, Park Hill, sophomore.Halfway to his goal of becoming a four-time state champion, Hosford won his second straight Missouri Class 4 state title with a couple of narrow decisions. He finished the season 37-2 and was unbeaten against wrestlers from Missouri.
Hayes compiled a 47-0 record this season en route to winning his second consecutive Missouri Class 4 state championship. He is the top-ranked wrestler in the nation in his weight class, according to FloWrestling.com.
132 POUNDSAustin Eveler, Lee’s Summit West, junior.The biggest matches seemed to bring out the best in Eveler, who won the Missouri Class 4 state title a year after settling for second place. He came from behind to defeat Park Hill senior John Erneste by one point in one of the state’s most entertaining championship bouts. He finished 48-3.
138 POUNDSBlake Clevenger, Kearney, senior.After finishing as a runner-up as a sophomore and a junior, Clevenger captured a state title this season. He cruised to the Missouri Class 3 state championship with a 52-3 record. He was undefeated against wrestlers from Missouri.
145 POUNDSMichael Olsen, Lansing, senior.Olsen capped his undefeated senior season with the Kansas Class 5A state title. It was the second state title for Olsen, who finished 36-0.
152 POUNDSGrant Leeth, Kearney, senior.A loss in the championship match his freshman season served as motivation for three consecutive Missouri Class 3 state titles. Leeth pinned every opponent after winter break and finished with a 54-1 record. The Duke signee owns the Kearney school record for victories with 204.
160 POUNDSDaniel Lewis, Blue Springs, senior.The Star’s selection for All-Metro wrestler of the year, Lewis became the first four-time state champion in school history. More impressively, he won in four different weight classes. No opponent even reached the third period this season against Lewis, a Missouri signee who was 45-0.
170 POUNDSDustin Williams, Gardner Edgerton, senior.The Nebraska signee went 37-0 and won his third consecutive Kansas Class 6A state championship. He is the first Gardner Edgerton wrestler to earn a Division I scholarship.
182 POUNDSAlan Clothier, Lawrence, sophomore.The Sunflower League wrestler of the year went 31-1 this season on his way to the Kansas Class 6A state title. His only loss came against Jared Langley of Newton, who was the Kansas Class 5A state champion.
195 POUNDSMichael Pixley, Blue Springs, senior.The second-ranked wrestler in the nation in his weight class, Pixley cruised to a second straight Missouri Class 4 state championship. He compiled a 43-1 record and pinned or recorded a technical fall against every opponent in the postseason.
220 POUNDSChristian Boyles, Blue Springs South, junior.The school’s first state champion in 11 years, Boyles came from behind to score a dramatic overtime victory in the Missouri Class 4 state championship bout. It was a fitting way to cap his 43-2 season.
