913 area high school football: Week 7 review

Here is a review of Week 7 high school football action in the Sunflower League and Eastern Kansas League, as well as four other 913 area teams. Records in parentheses are overall and league marks.

SUNFLOWER LEAGUE

1. Shawnee Mission East (7-0, 5-0)

Last week: Defeated Harmon 83-0

Wyatt Edmiston ran for two touchdowns and Gunnar Englund passed for two more in the Lancers’ rout.

2. Olathe North (7-0, 6-0)

Last week: Defeated Olathe East 49-3

The Eagles were dominant in the rushing game, scoring all seven touchdowns on the ground. Venus Triplett led with three touchdowns.

3. Olathe South (6-1, 4-1)

Last week: Defeated Blue Valley Northwest 42-20

Jake Seurer completed 12 of 19 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns. DaeVonte’ Nance ran for two touchdowns.

4. Lawrence (4-3, 4-2)

Last week: Defeated Olathe Northwest 20-17

The Chesty Lions bounced back from a one-possession loss to Olathe South with a close victory. They have won three of their last four games.

5. Olathe Northwest (4-3, 4-2)

Last week: Lost to Lawrence 20-17

The Ravens’ playoff hopes took a hit with the three-point loss, but they have a winnable matchup with Olathe East this week.

6. Lawrence Free State (4-3, 3-3)

Last week: Defeated Washburn 42-14

Bryce Torneden ran for two touchdowns and connected with Tye Carter for one through the air. Khaury El-Amin added two rushing touchdowns.

7. Leavenworth (3-4, 1-4)

Last week: Defeated Schlagle 29-8

Isaiah Ross caught a touchdown pass from Landry Hodges and ran back an interception for another touchdow.

8. Shawnee Mission West (3-4, 3-4)

Last week: Defeated Shawnee Mission Northwest 36-10

Tarik Watson ran for two touchdowns and Asher Goldston ran back an 80-yard interception return in the victory.

9. Olathe East (3-4, 2-4)

Last week: Lost to Olathe North 49-3

The Hawks have been held to seven points or less in each of their last three games — and lost all of them.

10. Shawnee Mission South (2-5, 1-5)

Last week: Defeated Blue Valley North 21-9

The Raiders answered an early field goal with three consecutive touchdowns to pick up their second victory.

11. Shawnee Mission Northwest (2-5, 2-4)

Last week: Lost to Shawnee Mission West 36-10

Cougars gave up 36 unanswered points, which included an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown.

12. Shawnee Mission North (1-6, 0-6)

Last week: Defeated Wyandotte 58-13

The Indians snapped a 25-game losing streak and picked up their first victory of the season in a district blowout.

EASTERN KANSAS LEAGUE

1. Bishop Miege (7-0, 6-0)

Last week: Defeated Spring Hill 42-0

The Stags kicked off district play in dominant fashion with three passing touchdown from Ryan Willis and two rushing touchdowns from Dawson Downing.

2. Blue Valley (6-1, 5-1)

Last week: Defeated Gardner Edgerton 70-20

The Tigers have won four consecutive games since suffering their first loss against undefeated Bishop Miege.

3. St. Thomas Aquinas (5-2, 4-2)

Last week: Defeated Blue Valley Southwest 48-7

Karter Odermann ran for two touchdowns and connected with Landon Johnson for another through the air.

4. Blue Valley Northwest (4-3, 3-2)

Last week: Lost to Olathe South 42-20

Zack Zegunis threw two touchdown passes to Dalton Schoen and added a rushing touchdown in the loss.

5. Blue Valley West (4-3, 2-3)

Last week: Defeated Pittsburg 14-12

Nathan Wiles completed 19 of 30 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Luke Curtis and Blaise Gammon.

6. Blue Valley Southwest (3-4, 2-4)

Last week: Lost to St. Thomas Aquinas 48-7

The Timberwolves gave up 42 points in the first half and Luke Wilmes scored the only touchdown on a 51-yard run.

7. Blue Valley North (1-6, 1-5)

Last week: Lost to Shawnee Mission South 21-9

The Mustangs could not capitalize on momentum from their first victory. They were held to just one field goal and one touchdown.

8. Gardner Edgerton (0-7, 0-6)

Last week: Lost to Blue Valley 70-20

The Trailblazers are still looking for their first victory of the season after a rout in the first week of district play.

OTHER 913 AREA SCHOOLS

1. St. James Academy (5-2, IND)

Last week: Lost to Mill Valley 17-14

Zak Hensley ran for one touchdown and caught a touchdown pass from Trey Keith, who passed for 164 yards.

2. Mill Valley (3-4, 1-0)

Last week: Defeated St. James Academy 17-14

Logan Koch threw one touchdown pass to Christian Jegen and ran 66 yards for another touchdown.

3. De Soto (3-4, 1-3)

Last week: Lost to Baldwin 33-19

De Soto allowed 30 or more points for just the second time this season. The Wildcats are 0-2 in those games.

4. Spring Hill (2-5, 2-3)

Last week: Lost to Bishop Miege 42-0

The Broncos were no match for the high-powered offensive attack from undefeated Bishop Miege.
