It was another big night of games across the Kansas City metro on Friday.

Here are some highlights from Week 6 of the Missouri high school football schedule.

No. 1 Platte County 49, No. 12 Smithville 7

Platte County continued its two-year run of dominance in Missouri — and against a nearby rival — on Friday evening.

The Pirates, ranked No. 1 in the 810 Varsity Top 25 and Missouri Class 5, steamrolled rival Smithville 49-7 in Platte City.

Platte County’s star quarterback, Rocco Marriott, tied a single-game school record by passing for six touchdowns.

Platte County, which last lost on Nov. 10, 2023, opened the scoring with Marriott’s 20-yard TD pass to fellow senior Tres Baskerville.

Marriott threw two TD passes to Ty Christopher — covering 48 and 17 yards — and one apiece to Braiden Stevens, Brooks Hall and Adam Gisler. Gisler added a rushing TD in a game that marked his return from injury.

Platte County will travel to Truman next Friday, while Smithville (4-2) plays host to Pittsburg (Kansas).

No. 3 Liberty 31, No. 23 Park Hill 28

Liberty needed a last-minute drive to hold off upset-minded Park Hill.

The Blue Jays, ranked No. 3 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, trailed No. 23 Park Hill 28-24 after Trojans quarterback Zane Thomas hit Braylon Agee for the pair’s third touchdown of the night.

The 16-yard strike put Park Hill up by four points with just 6:13 left in the game. But Liberty (6-0) engineered a stout drive capped by quarterback Connor Hatfield’s 28-yard TD pass to Logan Sutton with 1:23 left.

Earlier in the game, Liberty looked to be in good position after opening the second half with a pick-six — a 71-yard TD return by Deacon Price. That made it 24-14 Liberty.

But Park Hill’s Kaiden Irving opened the final period with a one-yard TD run to narrow the gap to just three points, 24-21.

Thomas led Park Hill with 264 passing yards and three TDs, all to Agee, who finished with 52 receiving yards. Dante Dixon had 11 receptions for 112 yards.

Hatfield threw for 117 yards and the game-winning score while also rushing for 124 yards and a touchdown. Colt Nolin ran for a game-high 149 yards and a TD.

Liberty will travel to No. 4 Blue Springs South next Friday, while Park Hill visits St. Joe Central.

No. 20 Blue Springs 38, No. 5 Rockhurst 29

Blue Springs picked a great way to end a two-game losing streak. And on the road, too.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 20 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, dealt previously undefeated and fifth-ranked Rockhurst a 38-29 loss at Dasta Stadium on Friday night.

Rockhurst (5-1) rallied from a 24-17 deficit when quarterback Garrett Miller connected with Blake Thomas for a 55-yard touchdown pass with 4:58 left.

But a penalty and missed extra-point attempt left Rockhurst still trailing, 24-23.

Blue Springs tailback Dontay Ulberg fumbled at the visitors’ 24 shortly after, but the ball caromed forward and teammate Devin Staley picked it up at the 26. Staley then raced to a 78-yard TD that made it 31-23 with 4:37 left.

Other highlights Friday included Brodee Foreman picking off a Rockhurst pass for a Blue Springs TD and Staley running for a 34-yard TD that make it 17-14 with 7:57 remaining in the third period.

After the latter score, Rockhurst countered with a 26-yard field goal for a 17-17 tie with 1:44 left in the quarter.

Blue Springs will play at Park Hill South next Friday evening, while Rockhurst visits St. Thomas Aquinas.
