It was another big night of games across the Kansas City metro on Friday.

Here are some highlights from Week 4 of the Kansas high school football schedule.

No. 22 Basehor-Linwood 42, No. 21 De Soto 38

In a showdown likely to determine the United Kansas Conference champion, Basehor-Linwood rallied for a thrilling win at De Soto.

Basehor-Linwood, ranked No. 22 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, improved to 4-0 and sits atop the league standings.

Basehor-Linwood took a last-minute drive inside the red zone, then — facing a fourth down at the De Soto 33 — quarterback Carson Dixon connected a pass to the DHS 18. A personal foul moved the Bobcats to the De Soto 9 with 24 seconds left.

Dixon threw a lob to the left side of the end zone to a wide-open Nash Morrison for the game-winning TD with 13 seconds remaining.

Morrison finished with 154 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He had first-half TD receptions of 36 and 34 yards from Dixon, then an 18-yard strike in the third to make a 35-24.

But De Soto (3-1) came back. Jackson Whiddon caught a pass over the middle and jetted to the right sideline for a 50-yard reception to the Bobcats’ 9 on the first play of the final period.

Two plays later, junior Will Morton took a pitch left into the end zone for a 35-31 margin with 10:59 left.

After a Bobcats punt, De Soto started a drive at its own 13 with 7:21 left. Two plays later, from the 19, Morton took a pitch right 79 yards to the BL 2. Three plays later, senior slot receiver Christian Dickinson rushed in a two-yard TD and De Soto had its only lead, at 38-35, with 4:56 left.

De Soto actually held the Bobcats on downs and took over at midfield with 3:50 left. But the Wildcats’ drive stalled and Basehor-Linwood took over for the game-winning drive.

Basehor-Linwood plays host to Topeka West next Friday, while De Soto travels to Shawnee Heights.

No. 11 St. James 35, Blue Valley 29

St. James Academy looked to keep its home cooking simmering against another traditional Eastern Kansas League power.

And the Thunder — whose season-opening win over Bishop Miege was the first on-campus football game in school history — indeed got the best of Blue Valley. Ranked No. 11 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, St. James improved to 3-1, 2-0 at Marian Stadium.

Blue Valley (1-3) trailed 22-15 midway through the third quarter, but an end-around to junior Jacob Lockett resulted in a 49-yard scamper down the left sideline for a touchdown and 22-22 tie.

On the ensuing possession, the Thunder were backed up on their own 4 but engineered a scoring drive. A 28-yard pass from junior quarterback John Hornback to senior wideout Alec Jett moved the Thunder across midfield, and the drive culminated in a 27-yard field goal by James Ewing.

Blue Valley followed with its own drive inside the red zone, but its 38-yard field-goal attempt was blocked by St. James with 7:41 left.

St. James took over at its own 29 and three plays later senior tailback Jake House took a pitch left at the 38, crossed through the pack at midfield to the right and jetted 50 yards before being pushed out at the BV 12.

Blue Valley intercepted a pass in the end zone to end St. James’ drive, but the Tigers failed on a fourth-and-2 from their own 28 with under three minutes to go.

From there, the Thunder drove to the 10 before House scored with 1:49 left. He finished with a game-high 204 rushing yards on 22 carries.

St. James started its scoring on Hornback’s 41-yard TD connection with Jett with 7:06 left in the first period. Jett finished with 106 yards on five receptions.

St. James will cross the border to play at St. Pius X next Friday, while Blue Valley plays host to Blue Valley North.

Eudora 35, No. 20 Ottawa 21

For the second straight week, Eudora sent an undefeated and ranked league opponent home with a loss.

The Cardinals (3-1) earned a 35-21 win over No. 20 Ottawa on Friday night in Eudora. Last week, Eudora dealt Spring Hill, ranked No. 23 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, its first loss of the year.

Tied 21-21 at halftime this week, the Cards opened a drive at the EHS 38. Three plays later, a personal foul moved Eudora to the Ottawa 30. Then senior Bryce Mulvihill took a run down the left seam to the 12.

Three plays after that, junior Grayson Moody plunged into the end zone to make it 28-21.

Ottawa failed on a fourth-and 8, but the Cyclones connected on a 38-yard shot to the 2 with 7:48 in the quarter. Eudora, however, mounted a goal-line stand to preserve its lead.

With 1:32 remaining in the game, Houstyn Carnagie’s keeper to the end zone was ruled a TD, sealing the outcome.

The Cardinals will travel to Louisburg next week, while Ottawa heads to Spring Hill.
