  • The Jaguars scored eight runs in the fifth inning to defeat Staley 8-6 in Ozark.
  • Missouri state champions also included Platte County, Chillicothe and Fatima.

Blue Springs South claimed the Missouri Class 6 championship for high school baseball in comeback fashion on Saturday at the Ozark Mountain Sports Complex.

Big-time comeback fashion.

The Jaguars, who beat Parkway South 7-4 in Friday’s semifinals, on Saturday out-slugged a fellow Kansas City-area squad from Staley 8-6 for the big-school title.

All of the victors’ slugging — of the scoring variety, anyway — came in the fifth inning.

Blue Springs South fell behind 4-0 after three innings and trailed 6-0 entering the fifth. But by the time the fifth inning was over, the Jaguars had sent 12 men to the plate and scored all eight of their runs thanks to a tremendous rally.

It’s the first state championship in program history for Blue Springs South.

Ben Baier-coached Blue Springs South and Staley had split their regular-season meetings this spring. Blue Springs South finishes the 2025 season 28-7, while the Falcons finish 39-4.

In Class 5 baseball, Platte County earned a state title with a 14-4 blowout of Vianney. The Pirates advanced to Saturday’s title showdown after dispatching Rockwood Summit 6-1 in Friday’s semifinals.

Below are scores from the weekend’s final two state championship tournaments for spring sports — Missouri baseball in Ozark and Missouri girls soccer in Fenton.

In the latter sport, St. Joseph’s Academy won the Class 2 championship and Lee’s Summit West, Pleasant Hill and Notre Dame de Sio all earned third place in their respective classifications.
