The 2024 Kansas boys high school state soccer championships took place on Saturday at the Scheels Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita.

And what it day it turned out to be for the Shawnee Mission East Lancers and Blue Valley Southwest Timberwolves, who each claimed KSHSAA state titles

Lancers topple Dodge City in 6A

Shawnee Mission East scored the only goal needed in the opening half, then held on to beat previously unblemished Dodge City 1-0 for the program’s first Class 6A state championship in boys soccer.

The Lancers’ goal came as halftime approached, with Brady Neuman knocking in an assist from Benjamin Perkins at the Stryker complex.

Shawnee Mission East finishes the season 19-1-1, while Dodge City absorbs its first loss in the last possible game and ends the year at 20-1-0.

Washburn Rural beat Shawnee Mission West 3-1 in the match for third place.

BV Southwest wins 5A crown

Senior Crew Alvarez — the school record-holder for goals in a career — recorded a state-final hat trick as Blue Valley Southwest throttled Maize South 7-0 for the Class 5A title.

The victory capped a perfect season for the Timberwolves, who finish the year 21-0-0. It’s Blue Valley Southwest’s first state championship since 2021.

Saturday’s outcome broke a two-year hold on the state title by Maize South, which finishes the 2024 season with a record of 18-3-0.

It also avenges the outcome of last year’s state final, in which Maize South beat BVSW 3-2.

Trinity Academy soars in 4-1A

Earlier Saturday, the Class 4-1A final featured a pair of hometown Wichita squads: Rose Hill, which shocked Bishop Miege in the semifinals, and Trinity Academy.

Trinity (17-4-0) emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over Rose Hill in the state final, while Baldwin beat Miege 2-1 in the game for third place at the Stryker complex.
