KC area high school football schedule for Oct. 17-18

Here are two games in the spotlight on Friday’s Kansas City area high school football schedule:

LS WEST (6-2) AT RAY-PEC (6-2)

It’s no shock that the Suburban Conference Gold Division race has come down to the final week of the regular season. But it’s a bit of surprise which team still controls its destiny: Raymore-Peculiar.

After a 2-2 start, the Panthers have reeled off four straight victories and can clinch the league championship in perhaps the state’s top football conference. All they have to do is defeat last year’s Missouri Class 5 state champion.

Ray-Pec is almost certain to rely on tailback Isaiah Truss and a powerful offensive line. Truss has run for 19 touchdowns in eight games.

Lee’s Summit West is looking to regain some of the offensive magic that led to victories in its first five games. The Titans have scored 18.5 points per game over the past two weeks after averaging 45 during the first six weeks.

OLATHE EAST (3-3) at OLATHE NORTH (6-0)

Olathe East has been struggling lately and the result has been back-to-back losses. This week could be a boost if the Hawks can find a way to knock off undefeated Olathe North.

Olathe East has been held to just seven points in each of its last two games which could make this matchup especially tricky. Olathe North settled for close victories in each of the first three weeks, but has recently found its groove averaging 43 points per game. Venus Triplett has been at the center of the attack running for two touchdowns and catching a pass for another last week in the victory against Shawnee Mission North.
