Each week during the fall high school sports season, The Star and 810 Varsity recognize the standout performance of a team or individual from around the Kansas City metro.

Blue Valley Southwest ended its winless streak against district rival Blue Valley in style last week.

BV Southwest, which had never beaten the Tigers in its 13 previous tries, upended Blue Valley 33-19 at the Tigers’ home field. In the previous 13 games, Blue Valley had outscored the T-Wolves, 502-134 — but not this time.

Breaking a 13-13 halftime tie, Southwest scored three second-half touchdowns to put away the Tigers.

Senior quarterback Dylan Dunn fueled the offense with 316 passing yards and four touchdowns. Dunn finished as the top passer (in yardage) in Kansas Class 5A the last two years and should be among the area’s top passers again this fall.

A couple of Dunn’s fellow seniors — wide receivers Alex Parks (144 yards, two TDs) and Tate Everard (114 yards, TD) — helped lead the T-Wolves against Blue Valley.

Last season, the Timberwolves advanced to the Kansas Class 5A semifinals before falling to eventual four-time defending state champion Mill Valley.

Entering this week’s games, Blue Valley Southwest (1-0) ranks No. 2 in 810 Varsity’s Kansas Class 5A state rankings. The T-Wolves, No. 13 in the 810 Metro Varsity Top 25, will play host to No. 8 Bishop Miege at 7 p.m. Friday.
