Lee’s Summit North defensive end Williams Nwaneri, a five-star prospect and the No. 1-ranked recruit in the nation (2024 class) per On3.com, will announce his college decision on August 14.

The 6-foot-6, nearly-260-pound top recruit listed Oklahoma, Missouri, Oregon, Georgia and Tennessee in his final five.

This summer, Nwaneri took official visits to the Sooners, Tigers, Bulldogs and Volunteers, plus an unofficial visit to the Ducks this past weekend.

In July, Nwaneri became the Kansas City metro’s first No. 1-ranked high school football player, according to On3. Both 247Sports and Rivals list Nwaneri as the No. 3 prospect in the nation.

Currently, On3’s “recruiting prediction machine” has Nwaneri committing to Oklahoma at 55.9%, Georgia at 21.4%, Missouri at 12.7% and both Oregon and Tennessee at 1.7% apiece, among a smattering of other schools.

Former Lee’s Summit North offensive lineman Cayden Green, one of Nwaneri’s former teammates, is a freshman at Oklahoma. Additionally, Nwaneri’s head coach, Jamar Mozee, played running back for Oklahoma and was a member of the program’s last national championship team in 2000.

Speaking to The Star in July, Nwaneri noted he tries not to pay attention to his national ranking. And when it comes to picking a college, he said he just wants to go somewhere he feels safe and cared for as a player and person.
