Wilde’s No. 1 finish paces Liberty North to boys championship in Missouri cross country

The Liberty North boys cross country rode an an individual state championship and strong showing from supporting runners to the Class 5 team title Friday at the Gans Creek course in Columbia.

Eagles junior Sage Wilde traversed the course in 15:05.9 to finish No. 1 overall.

Runner-up honors went to Ian Kemey in 15:12.7, a showing that helped his school, nearby Rock Bridge, to second place as a team behind Liberty North. Third-place team honors went to Kickapoo.

In the Class 5 girls competition, the top three teams were Lafayette (Wildwood), runner-up Raymore-Peculiar and third-place Blue Springs South.

Friday was just the first day of the two-day MSHSAA high school cross country championships. Classes 1-3 compete Saturday at Gans Creek.
