Blue Springs South softball team wins Missouri Class 5 state title in Springfield
The Blue Springs South High School softball team rolled over Francis Howell at the Killian Softball Complex in Springfield on Friday to win the Missouri Class 5 high school state championship.
The Jaguars beat Francis Howell 10-2. Blue Springs South jumped to a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning on a pair of two-run home runs by Abigail Wilhelm and Ava Wilmes.
It’s the first state title for the Jaguars since their back-to-back championships in 2018 and 2019.
The Jaguars (34-2) advanced to Friday’s state-title game with an 11-2 victory over Marquette in Thursday’s semifinals. The Vikings of Francis Howell finished their season 28-7.
Earlier Friday, Kearney beat Helias Catholic 14-9 for the Class 4 championship, giving the Kansas City area two state softball champions in Missouri’s two largest school classifications.
